Ann Marie Fitzsimmons
I have been interested in art & artists my entire life. I began painting as a very young girl. I began painting images of chairs thirty years ago. The chairs are usually very specific chairs, with names such as Windsor, Wassily or Stickley. I am fascinated by many different types of chair designs; however, I am more interested in what a chair does to someone’s personality, even for a short time. For example, an individual will “act” accordingly when seated in a very proper Queen Ann style chair as opposed to sitting in a cheap metal folding chair. People are seldom present in my paintings, yet their presence can be felt. My images are quiet glimpses into three-dimensional spaces that are meticulously arranged. I graduated with honors and received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art from Montclair State University. I am currently teaching painting and drawing classes to children, teens and adults at the Around the Corner Art Center in Freehold, NJ. |
Eva Marie Fitzsimmons
I recently graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Painting. My paintings usually depict architecture in some, if even abstract, way. They often use flat planes of color to create an idealized experience of some autobiographical event. Each painting represents some specific moment in my lifetime, whether it be recent or long past. They each evoke a specific memory for me, though these spaces may be derived from collage or cropping that is recombined in a completely new way for the viewer to experience. If these paintings are to contain figures or foliage, it is to be abstracted similarly to the architecture nearby. I have exhibited my paintings recently in juried exhibitions , such as, Nexus the Arts Guild of NJ's International Exhibition and First Street Gallery's "Strange Paradise" National Juried Exhibition. I am currently a teacher at Around the Corner Art Center. Below is a selection of some recent works. |
